An Afternoon with Fred & George - 1

An Afternoon with Fred & George - 1
Saturday 15 July 2017
4:00 am

Orchestra NOVA, with conductor Andrew Hermon, invites you to spend an afternoon with Fred and George; featuring a programme of music by French and English composers.

The concert opens with Herold’s Overture to his opera ‘Zampa’; a tale which the main character, after losing the family fortune, deserts his betrothed and runs away to become a pirate.

It is followed by Borne’s Carmen Fantasia featuring soloist Elise Kearney on Flute. Based on themes from Bizet’s opera ‘Carmen’, Borne created a tour de force which has become a staple of the solo flute repertoire. The first half finishes with the Prelude to Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers.

The second half of the concert showcases the music of George Fredrick Handel; opening with his famous Ombra Mai Fu from Xerxes. The concert finishes with a suite, especially arranged for this concert, featuring movements from Handel’s Water Music suites and Music for the Royal Fireworks.

Conducted by Andrew Hermon and featuring soloist Elise Kearney (Flute)
